Alf Svensson

Alf Svensson (1929-1992) was a Swedish designer and innovator who studied at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. He specialised in traditional materials such as teak, rosewood, and leather to create products in the Scandinavian Modern style. He was particularly active in the 1950s through the ‘70s, designing storage, tables, and seating for a variety of influential manufacturers.

Although little known to the public, he created several iconic mid-century designs for several prominent Nordic brands; his work with Fritz Hansen and Audo Copenhagen remains striking to this day. Svensson's minimalist creations prioritised simple, practical functionality and exquisite craftsmanship. His furniture designs earned widespread recognition and accolades, including the Prince Eugen Medal from the Swedish Society of Industrial Design in 1980.
